(first of all I really like that user...Crophugger,

(first of all I really like that username!) Yes, at least the philosophy of Organic is more of a systems thinking deal. That is not in the "rules" so some of the old school Organic folks call much of modern Organic "Grade B" or "Compliance Only" Organic. I also agree that this can become an ideological argument divorced from practical realities. That really doesn't accomplish anything for either side.Steve Savagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04408822620071396633noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4541703279082624205.post-62905007602486801872011-03-17T19:00:27.276-07:002011-03-17T19:00:27.276-07:00Steve,
I agree with your selection of the benefits...Steve,
I agree with your selection of the benefits of organic agriculture. One additional, perhaps overarching benefit is that the organic method can engender healthy, long term systems thinking. It tends not to encourage, in the annual world anyway, the 3-4 month plop-a-plot and go cycle which is just kind of inserted willy-nilly into the larger agro-ecological scene. This, of course, does not require the broad biological understanding needed to maintain a healthy system in perpetuity. There is a danger though, I think, if the practitioners of the organic method descend into organic dogma and, as a consequence, biological integrity becomes a casualty of ideological desperation.

Regards,
Marc PacchioliMarc Pacchiolihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12673470522993010624noreply@blogger.com
